How to Get Out of a Funk: It’s Time to Get Your Groove Back

Hellooo and happy March!! (I know it’s almost April but sshhh). You might have wondered where I’ve been, and to be honest, I don’t even know. I’ve been in the biggest funk/dip/feeling stuck, but slowly, I’m getting out of it. Isn’t it crazy how we can start the new year with the best of intentions, all motivated to crush our goals, and then slip into old habits so easily? It’s like the universe gives us a blank slate and somehow, we find a way to scribble all over it. But here’s the thing: it’s time to make long-lasting, sustainable change.

Getting out of a funk isn’t as hard as it seems. It starts with small, intentional steps that help shift your mindset and actions. It’s all about taking the power back in your hands and deciding that you are worthy of a better reality, no matter where you are right now. So if you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or just a little lost, this post is for you. I’ll be sharing what helped me break free from that funk and how you can start creating a new version of yourself—one that’s aligned with your dreams and goals.

1. Create a New Identity for Yourself – Roleplay the Best Version of You

One of the most powerful things I’ve learned when I’ve felt lost or stuck is that it’s not about waiting for a miracle. It’s about stepping into a new identity—one that embodies the best version of yourself. Sometimes, you have to roleplay who you want to become, even if it feels a little weird at first. Ask yourself: What does my dream self do every day? How does she show up? How does she handle challenges?

It’s not pretending, it’s creating. And you’re creating your future. So, start acting like the person you want to become. Start small with daily habits that align with your dream identity. I know it sounds cliché, but it’s honestly the most powerful way to get yourself out of a funk. You can make your new identity as simple or as extravagant as you want. Just remember: it’s about making shifts in how you see yourself and the actions you take.

2. Set Some Boundaries with Your Phone and Social Media

Ah yes, the damn phone. The root of all distractions. I guess our parents were right… I’m right there with you. Social media, as much as it can be fun and inspirational, can also leave you feeling more drained and disconnected than ever. Scrolling through Instagram, seeing other people’s “perfect” lives, constantly comparing yourself to others—it’s a productivity killer and a dream-slayer.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve fallen into the trap. But here’s the truth: while others are living their best lives on social media, you’re watching them instead of building your own. If you find yourself feeling stuck or inadequate, check in with your social media habits. Set stricter limits on scrolling. Follow people who inspire you but unfollow those who drain you. It’s about protecting your energy so you can focus on building your own dream life.

3. Get Out More – Don’t Isolate Yourself

I get it—sometimes when you’re in a funk, all you want to do is hide away and shut everyone out. But here’s the kicker: isolation can make everything worse. It’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you have to go through it alone, but that’s not true. Getting out, connecting with others, and just being around people can help you shift your energy.

For me, I was isolating myself way more than I should’ve. Moving to a new place with barely anyone around, I felt disconnected. I realized I needed to break the isolation, so I started getting a part-time job. It wasn’t to build my career, it was to be around people, to network, and just have more opportunities to connect. It didn’t need to be a life-changing job, just a small step to get me back in touch with the world outside. And guess what? It worked. I felt a shift in my energy and opportunities started to open up.

4. Health Really Is Wealth – Take Care of Your Body and Mind

We’ve all heard it before, but it doesn’t make it any less true: health really is wealth. When you’re stuck in a funk, it’s easy to neglect your body, whether it’s through poor eating habits, lack of movement, or not prioritizing rest. But the truth is, your physical health directly impacts your mental health. You can’t expect to feel good mentally if your body’s running on empty.

It’s all about small, consistent actions. Simple things like getting more movement (even a walk counts!), nourishing your body with good food, staying hydrated, and taking time to rest. I know it’s boring to hear (I hate how basic it sounds too), but taking care of your physical health is a game-changer when it comes to getting out of a funk. It’s about treating your body with love and respect, and when you do, you’ll see the mental and emotional benefits.

5. Small Wins, Big Shifts – Focus on Progress, Not Perfection

Lastly, let’s talk about progress. When you’re stuck in a funk, it’s easy to get discouraged because you feel like you’re not making the progress you want. But progress doesn’t always have to be big. It’s those small, consistent wins that add up. It’s the tiny steps you take every day that build momentum. Instead of looking at the huge mountain ahead of you, focus on climbing one step at a time.

Make a habit of celebrating your small wins. Whether it’s getting out of bed at a decent time, completing a workout, or simply writing down your thoughts—it all counts. Each of these small actions moves you one step closer to the life you want. And those small wins will add up over time, building the confidence and energy you need to break out of that funk.

You Are Not Stuck Forever

Getting out of a funk isn’t a one-time fix. It’s a series of small changes that you make every day. Start small, be kind to yourself, and focus on the things you can control. You’re not stuck forever, and you can always change your life whenever you choose. You’ve got everything you need to start making those shifts today. You are worthy of a life you love—one where you feel energized, confident, and aligned with your dreams.
